Texas AHEC East - DFW Region

Texas AHEC East - DFW Region is dedicated to enhancing the health of rural and underserved communities across Collin, Dallas, Fannin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, Rockwall, and Tarrant Counties. By partnering with key organizations in our service area, we have achieved significant programmatic, policy, and environmental successes. Through innovative health education and workforce development initiatives, we actively work with the community to bridge existing gaps in care, ensuring that underserved populations receive the support they need for better health outcomes.

Community Activities and Partnerships

Texas AHEC East - DFW Region works to expand access to healthcare and increase healthcare knowledge throughout the community in a variety of ways, including activities and partnerships with local providers and organizations. Some of our recent partnerships include the DFW-CHW Association, Tarrant County Public Health, and Foremost Family Health Centers, among others.

Community Health Worker Certification Classes and Continuing Education

The Promotor(a) or Community Health Worker Training and Certification Program provides leadership to enhance the development and implementation of statewide training and certification standards and administrative rules for the Promotor(a) or Community Health Worker (CHW) Training and Certification Program. Texas AHEC East - DFW Region is a state-certified training site and provides both CHW certification classes and regular CHW continuing education opportunities.

Regional Information

The DFW metroplex has over 7 million residents, with more than 4.5 million in Dallas and Tarrant Counties.

Dallas is the third-largest city in Texas and the ninth-largest in the United States.

The area is home to several universities, including:

  • University of Texas at Arlington
  • University of Texas at Dallas
  • University of Texas Southwestern
  • Texas Christian University (TCU)
  • Southern Methodist University (SMU)

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is the second-largest in the nation and the sixth-largest worldwide.

Two of the five largest employers in the region are in the healthcare industry: Texas Health Resources and Baylor Health Care System

  • AHEC works with various community partners to provide health education opportunities and to help increase access to health resources to those in underserved areas and communities.

  • Texas AHEC East DFW Region provides state-certified certification classes and continuing education opportunities for Community Health Workers, who are vital to helping underserved communities access the healthcare.
